Notes From Volunteer
Hello my name is Rhys Archer. I have been on school holidays and I would like to share with you an experience I had recently which was really fun.
One day I went to a village in Kemang called Kampung Kids with my Mum and her friend called Emilia. It was a very small classroom where kids from the village come and spend about an hour doing fun things like writing, drawing, learning their ABC's and then having a treat at the end! When we got there we first played with my blocks and the kids were very interested in them. I made a huge big castle (which was bigger than my little brother) with them and also did some puzzles. My Mum had printed off some letters for them to colour in and practice their writing which they were really good at. In the classroom was a whiteboard and the kids then had to write on the whiteboard what letter they had just coloured in. To finish off, the Indonesian teacher read a book to them all in Indonesian that I couldn't understand, but that was ok I just looked at the pictures. I really enjoyed the classroom time, it was great and I made the kids laugh! After the class had finished we went on a tour of their village with Julia and saw where they lived. It was very hot walking around. Their houses were very small with no water and I just couldn't believe how many people lived in these small rooms. To get around the village we had to walk on really tiny paths and up and down stairs. There were lots of people around eating and some ladies were sewing. I'm not sure what game some kids were playing maybe chess, but they were playing with rocks. Going to Kampung Kids made me think of how lucky I am to have a big house, lots of food and a Play Station 3. I'm really looking forward to going next week with my Mum and Emilia again. Thanks Rhys Archer (9yrs) More Related...
