Pasti bisa!
A very special meeting took place on June 24th at Kampung Kids. Three students from the Faculty of Public Health of the University of Indonesia (UI) visited the "blue house" to have a friendly chat with the oldest kids. These students, Eli Fitriari, Pristy Septia and Ellisa Hanna, are being sponsored by the Spanish Speaking Association (also a sponsor of Kampung Kids) to be able to study at the university.
What a great afternoon we had! First, the students introduced themselves and explained how they managed to join such a prestigious university in spite of the low economic resources of their families. The Kampung Kids looked at them with big eyes full of curiosity and listened with attention. Afterwards, because nobody was daring to make any questions, the students started asking the kids, one by one, what would be their dream job. Among the girls, we saw a lot of wannabe doctors, teachers and secretaries. Among the boys, pilots, soccer players and even an architect. It was a tough thing to do! To stand up and open up your mind about your dreams in front of so many people. But the kids did great, and we all laughed a lot. Then, coached by Eli, Pristy and Elllisa, all kids chanted loudly together "Pasti bisa!" when asked if they would be able to put the effort necessary to fulfill their dreams.
We will have to wait and see what will happen in the future…but what is sure is that, even if only one of these kids has been convinced to continue and pursue a professional or university degree, this meeting has been already absolutely worthy. And on top of that, we had a lot of fun!
Thank you very much to Ibu Julia, from Kampung Kids, and Ibu Ninis, from the University of Indonesia, for helping us to coordinate this event.
